Guildford Piano School was founded by Dennis Ng, who has been teaching piano and keyboard in the area for nearly 15 years. Having dabbled around around with an electronic keyboard since he was 10, his Mum suggested he tried classical piano lessons when he was 12. Four years later, he achieved a distinction at grade 8 and was performing and organizing rock and soul bands within school.
Dennis also showed aptitude with science and maths and went to study Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge before returning to more musical endeavours at the ACM in Guildford where he has resided since. During this year, he developed skills in music production and went on to co-found the electronic/rock act, ‘Subsource’, that played hundreds of gigs across the UK (including Glastonbury and Isle of Wight festivals), Europe and even to China.
He went on to write and produce music that was used in adverts for video games and books that achieved millions of views on terrestrial TV and online.
GPS is built on the principles and philosophies he has established during his 15 years experience teaching and from his own musical journey:
- Music education should be moulded around the student’s own passions, activities and personality
- Students should be empowered to contribute to the direction of their own learning
- Students should self-review their progress and be aware of their current learning targets
- Communication between the teacher and student should be a two-way process
GPS follows the best safeguarding protocols with all tutors being required to undergo enhanced DBS screening.
